Butawa Village is our final offering in the African Great Lakes Series and our first ever coffee from Uganda.
Grown in the east on the Kenya border, many of the traditional Kenya cultivars have found their way across the border. High quality Uganda micro-lots have remained somewhat elusive up until this point - and the gorgeous cup profile speaks for itself - floral, complex stone fruit with just a hint of baking spice in the finish.

Some of the most interesting coffees in the world come from the African Great Lakes Region at the southern reaches of the Eastern Rift Valley. The high elevations, equatorial luminescence, and cool temperatures make for prime coffee growing conditions.
With the recent popularity and advancing best practices in experimental processes entering the region, that interest only expands.
This year we are happy to introduce our African Great lakes Project, showcasing four coffees grown in the region that I find particularly intriguing: four lots, three countries and three different processing methods.
Each of these coffees represent a new relationship for Merit, and I am excited that we get to bring them to your cup!
