Behind The Design
MERIT: We'd would love to know a bit about your art story/journey.
Allison: Well I was a kid who’d draw on the walls no matter the consequences and naturally found interest in art of multiple media growing up from drawing, ceramics, painting, up-cycling furniture, and tattooing. I took as many art classes possible in grade school and started college majoring in logistics. After two years I took the leap and became a design major, but over the pandemic I focused on tattooing and decided to continue with that as my current career!
MERIT: What would you define your style as?
Allison: My style is evolving but I’d narrow it to illustrative, naturalism, with American traditional influences.
MERIT: What was the inspiration for this piece you did for us?
Allison: The inspiration for this design was based off of the gold lantern commonly used for Merit. An old kerosene lantern sends my mind to hiking through an eerily quiet and dark forest with bright red mushrooms guiding you, the lantern doesn’t quite provide enough light to see far ahead but is enough to see the silhouettes of bats diving down. It’s a Halloween/fall design that is vague enough to wear all year with rich naturals tones and a pop of color.
